ABOUT  VELMA

Gospel Artist Velma, is a very popular gospel singer from her native hometown, Lansing, MI. She graduated from Grand Rapids Community College with an Associates degree in Business Administration. She has well established herself in the Las Vegas, Nevada area through her soulful singing talent focused in the gospel genre and has made a great fan base for herself with the help of her two adorable daughters Brittany and Tiffany. Sister Velma is a christian comedian and loves to tell jokes about things that she's experienced, especially while raising four children. She loves to incorporate them into her comedy routine. By the time she's finished, she has everyone crying tears at her "natural ability" to express her side of the story. 

 

Velma is the fourth daughter of five girls born to Verlean Townsend and Walter Brown. She grew up in the Pentecostal church and performed with her sisters in their singing group. There was always singing, preaching and performing in her family. Her extended relatives are also singers, preachers, pastors, authors, business owners and musicians. Velma grew up in church and knew what it meant to be faithful and dedicated. She knew and understood what it meant to give God your all, even while performing.

Ms. Velma is a proud mother of four, two girls and two boys; and a loving son-in-law. She prides herself on all their accomplishments in business and academics. She is a doting grandmother of two grandsons whom she loves to sing her favorite tune...."that's granny babies" whenever they come to visit their granny.

Velma is also an accomplished actress. She has acted in Torrey Russell's "Broadway in the Hood" stage plays for several years, and "Q. Allen King's "Can A Woman Raise A Man?" where she portrays "Aunt Tee" and has performed on Michael Campbell's "Spirit Show" at the Wolf Theater.Velma is no stranger to singing on stage or with singing groups. She has sung with Lonnie Clark's "Voices of Worship and Praise", Edwin Hawkins & Walter Hawkins Music & Arts Love Fellowship Conference and Aaron Arrington's Facebook Choral Choir all of Las Vegas. She also performs at home in Michigan were she is received with love and great expectation of singing one of the gospels greatest hymns.

Velma has performed for comedian George Wallace (a.k.a. "The New Mr. Las Vegas") during one of his comedy shows at the Flamingo, and as a choir member of Aaron Arrington's Facebook Choral, where she sung backup to Grammy Nominated Gospel Artist Tamela Mann on "Take Me to the King." She also performed her comedy routine and sang on stage for Power 88.1 Super Gospelfest in Henderson, Nevada to a sold out crowd of a-list performers including award winning gospel artist Mary Mary.
